Speak Out
In 2011 Artburst was awarded just over £370,000 of lottery funding to run “Speak Out” a project working with 556 children living in Hackney, 70% of whom had SLCN. The project ran in partnership with Hackney Speech Language and Therapy team. The project ran in two strands. Artburst Minis touring around children’s centres in Hackney and Artburst Make a Play a transition project for year 6 children.
🏆 The Speak Out Project won a national and local award and was shortlisted for two additional national awards. 🏆
- 556 children engaged on the Speak Out project, 308 had speech, language and communication needs
- 82% of children reported an improvement in their confidence
- 77% of parents learned new ways to help their child’s language and communication
- 41 freelance art and drama facilitators were trained to better support children with speech, language and communication needs
- 39 trainee/fully qualified speech and language therapists from University College Hospital and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy worked on the project
